The project aims at creating a holistic integration program for unaccompanied minors and youth, refugees, and asylum seekers, not excluding those on the move using inclusive and diversity-sensitive practices and methods. As that it aligns closely with the core objectives outlined in the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027, specifically focusing on engaging, connecting, and empowering young people. By facilitating youth participation in democratic processes and promoting social and civic engagement, Safe Spaces strives to ensure that all young individuals have the necessary support to actively participate in society.
The SafeSpaces addresses several key European Youth Goals, including fostering connections between the EU and its youth, promoting gender equality, building inclusive societies, facilitating constructive dialogue and access to information, supporting mental health and well-being, advocating for quality employment and learning opportunities, and ensuring space and participation for all young individuals.
Project specific objectives were defined as follows:
O1: Ensure that unaccompanied children receive the protection and support they need.
O2: Increase quality in the work, activities and practices of organizations and institutions involved.
O3: Build capacity of involved organizations to work transnationally and across sectors. Creation of international network for knowledge exchange and cooperation for youth centres worldwide providing the integration program for unaccompanied refugee minors
O4: Reach main target group thus unaccompanied minors and youth, refugees, and asylum seekers, not excluding those on the move
The project aims at creating a holistic integration program for unaccompanied minors and youth, refugees, and asylum seekers, not excluding those on the move using inclusive and diversity-sensitive practices and methods. This Methodology aims to outline the implementation process for (youth) migrant centres, focusing on specific areas and activities to facilitate the successful integration of unaccompanied migrant minors into hosting countries. The SafeSpaces refers to those centres capable of implementing these activities with the support of trained youth social workers. Key areas of intervention include youth work and social work, assessment procedures, prevention strategies, intervention methods, holistic approaches, ecological perspectives, and an integrated overview incorporating Training Modules developed through our Training Program.
The project’s impact and results will be ensured and sustained through creation of the international network: international network for knowledge exchange and cooperation for youth centres worldwide providing the integration program for unaccompanied minors and youth, refugees, and asylum seekers, not excluding those on the move. The framework for international knowledge exchange network will be created through website and social media. The final international conference will be arranged in Brussels to share the results and methodology with relevant organisations (especially youth centres), stakeholders and policymakers from the different countries.
Project activities are grouped into five Work packages:
WP1: Project Management covering transversal activities including project related arrangements, financial management, monitoring and evaluation, quality assurance and internal communication.
WP2: Research Phase focused on comparative analysis of services, target groups and best practices of the partnering youth centres
WP3: Youth Centre team Training Programme, targeting youth centre staff
WP4: Creation of Safe Spaces though piloting of holistic Safe Space model in partnering institutions
WP5: Dissemination and Exploitation Activities
